Norway is a country with beautiful nature including the famous fjords, the big forests, and the
impressive amount of mountains. This country is a nature enthusiast’s dream to visit and explore.
Sognefjord
The Sognefjord is called the king of the Norwegian fjords. It is located in the western part
of the country, northwest from the second largest city, Bergen. The Sognefjord is the longest fjord
in Europe and the second longest in the world, with a length of an astonishing 204 kilometers.
The beauty of Sognefjord, makes it a unique experience and is very prized amongst tourists
visiting Norway.
Svalbard
Svalbard is the most northern territory that Norway possesses. This island is home to the
world’s most northern city, Longyearbyen, at an astonishing 78 degrees north. However, it is
widely known for the seed bank that lies there. A seed bank is a place that stores seeds from many
different species of plants in case of a disaster. At such a northern location, you have to choose
wisely if you want to visit Svalbard as the sun is up all-day long during the summer, while there is
no light during the winter. As an added bonus, you would also have to deal with extreme
temperatures that can go as far down as -20 degrees Celsius. Svalbard is still a beautiful place
that offers a nearly untouched environment and also the northern lights.
Lofoten
The Lofoten Isles are located within the Arctic circle and represent Norway’s tradition of fishing. It is
at these islands that men would, back in time, head to during the fishing season to fish up food
for their families or sell their products to earn money. The most abundant fish near the Lofoten
Isles is cod, which holds a very important role within the Norwegian culture. Norwegians have developed
a unique style of preparing the fish that consists of hanging up the fish on a wooden stand and
letting the fish dry. This is called Klippfisk. Just like Svalbard, it is possible to admire the northern
lights but also the spectacular midnight sun.
There are a lot of other destination to travel to such as the capital city Oslo with the King’s
place, the fishing houses over the water in Bergen, or the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim.
Whether you like nature or the city, Norway is an amazing idea for a vacation trip with the
two options available in a very balanced way. The only thing to remember if you want to travel to
Norway is to bring clothes for every type of weather.
