To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee - USA

America’s history is full of great moments but also has its bitter share of regret. The struggles minorities went through in the face of discrimination and oppression cannot be understated. “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee is a glimpse into what the U.S. once was. The story is written through the perspective of a young white girl whose father is the lawyer of a black man accused of a heinous crime. As events unfold, we follow the life of this young girl which reveals the society of the Deep South in the 1960s. We observe how the lack of evidence and valid witness testimony clearly indicate the innocence of the black man. But, his fate is already decided when he enters the courtroom. The book greatly depicts the struggle African-Americans went through especially in regards to lynching while also recognizing the efforts of certain individuals who fought discrimination on behalf of these minorities.
