Lake Louise: An Albertan Treasure - Canada

Lake Louise, an infamous lake and jewel of Banff National Park, is a must see attraction. It is famous for its exquisite turquoise colored water that often reflects the surrounding mountains and Victoria Glacier during a summer day. This world class site is located just north of the town of Banff and the lake is easily accessible from cities like Calgary.

This site is surrounded by other renowned attractions including the grand Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Lake Louise is certainly a sight to remember as it was founded in 1890 as Laggan Station, an outpost at the end of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Today, the lake and the surrounding area is home to some of the finest hiking, skiing and site-seeing and wildlife in the world. During the summer months, visitors often enjoy walking along the pathway created around the lake and enjoy their time watching the glistening waters. Canoe rentals are also available for those who want to paddle out on the lake and many people enjoy being on the water.

Aside from enjoying the view, there are excellent hiking trails leading towards the mountain or beyond the lake towards the glacier. One of the most popular trails is the hike up to the Lake Agnes Tea House, where tea is served along with other deserts. In winter, the lake is frozen, and is covered in deep layers of snow. Many that visit during this time of year like to enjoy the nearby Lake Louise Ski Resort, one of Canada's most known ski destinations. If you are ever looking to visit Canada and get a glimpse at the beautiful wonders in our world, be sure to visit Lake Louise!
